If you're like me, you often take water for granted. After all, it is easily accessible in our everyday lives. For example, if you had to count how long you would have to wait until you found your nearest source of clean water, how long would it take?
...5 minutes?
...1 minute?
...10 seconds?
For us, the wait for water is often no wait at all. But for hundreds of millions of people, the reality is very different. At this moment, there are millions of families in the developing world who live without access to clean water. For them, the wait for water can be up to six hours.
The lack of this basic need results in families contracting preventable illnesses while suffering from malnutrition. There are also cascading effects, particularly for young children, who are often responsible for collecting water to help their families, which takes time away from school and play and ultimately limits their opportunity for a bright future.
It is time for us to end the wait for water.
This is why I joined the organizing committee for this year's Run For H2O. The Run For H2O is a charity run that raises funds for clean water projects in Guatemala. On Saturday, June 16, I will be joining hundreds of changemakers who will be running or walking 5KM or 10KM, because that is the distance that many people have to walk every day to get water from dirty streams and puddles. But it is easy to help: there is fresh, clean water that flows out of mountain springs. We can help raise the funds needed to buy pipes, cement, and accessories so that the local community can build a simple gravity water system that will supply clean water to the whole village.
This year, we are targeting our efforts to the Talaxcoc community in Guatemala. With our help, more than 1,000 people can have clean water for the rest of their lives. A $100 donation means clean water for life for 1 person. A $600 donation means clean water for life for a whole family. Would you consider joining me in making the power of water available to all by making a donation to the cause?
Thanks for your support!
Sincerely,
Tim
